General Policies

Elua’s Precept is a community based, collaborative roleplaying game. There is a litany of social contracts that we make with one another to ensure that we are all on the same page and having fun as well as policies to ensure the same outcome. These are not to be ignored. You are required to read the rules before making a character. Ignorance of the rules and policies of the game is not an excuse. As the game expands and issue arise, staff reserves the rights to alter or add new policies as needed. Some basic rules are not listed because they are basic and common knowledge but we will add them if we find that they are necessary. Any changes will be posted to the BB's to make the playerbase aware of it.

A note: Those of you who are seasoned roleplayers should be aware of the terms “In Game” and “Out of Game” those of you that are new to the hobby, Welcome! This note is here to let you know that the term “In game” refers to interactions between characters or events that take place in the world of the setting. IE the Pretendy Fun Times. “Out of Game” refers to the interactions between players as well as staff as flesh and blood people.

Roleplay Etiquette

  • We’re all here to have fun and it’s just a game. This is not to say that you aren’t allowed to feel joy or frustration or have other forms of attachment to your characters or their lives, but keep in mind that we’re all here to escape from the stress of the real world and have fun. Conflict is part of the story, it’s not personal. Additionally, if you’re ever concerned about it being personal and feel targeted and cornered your staff is available to help mediate the situation.
  • There is no hard ban on Out of Game chatter while in a scene, sometimes it’s great to clarify events, rules, or insert much needed levity into an intense situation. However, please keep the OOG chatter to a level that everyone in the scene is comfortable with.
  • If you find out some sort of secret from another player, don’t go telling people Out of Game. It makes it harder for the people you tell to act genuinely on the information if they obtain it In Game, and it’s disrespectful to the person who confided in you for whatever reason.
  • Elua’s Precept is a game with explicit content and is thus rated 18+. If you are under the age of 18 turn around here, this is not the game for you and we hope to see you in a few years.
  • Do not under any circumstances use this game as a vehicle to harass people. If we are provided proof that you are stalking another player after they have politely tried to disengage with you or across multiple games you will be banned. No exceptions. No appeals.
  • RLCF (real life comes first). This game is played on the internet, and thus many of our players are in different time zones, or have different commitments in their lives (such as children or work) that soak up their time. Give players time to react to events before steaming on ahead without them. The game does run at a 1:2 time ratio - one day real life is equal to two in game - and it's possible to step away for a week and come back and not be too badly out of step. Communicate with players you are engaged with about when they are available. If you really feel that you’ve been left hanging for an unreasonable amount of time contact staff.
  • Using +where, to know in character where someone else is in character, is not allowed. Don't do it.

Characters

Ported Characters

We here at Elua’s Precept believe very strongly that a character is the intellectual property of the player who wrote the character. Our policy on ported characters is simply this, if you wrote the character they are your property and you can bring them where you want. This means that if you picked up a character off of a pre generated list from another game, and want to bring them here, sorry, you will not be allowed to move them here. If you are the original writer of a character who was later placed on a pre-gen list you may port your character. If we find that you have, for some reason, stolen another player’s intellectual property (character) and brought them onto our game to be played by yourself the stolen character, and all of your associated alts will be frozen and you will not be welcome to return to Elua’s Precept. No Exceptions. Plagiarism is not something we tolerate here.

Abandoned Characters

If you leave the game or idle out on an original concept character, staff will consult your 'Last Wish' note on your character to see what is your preferred action regarding your character. Be it an outrageous or quite death, going off to live a quiet life in the countryside, offered up for pre-gen, etc etc. You are asked to provide us with at least three options of your choice. We will do everything in our power to respect your characters last wishes. There are times however, when your character will be offered up on pre-generation regardless of last wishes. If your character is in a position where the transition of their title/power would be detrimental to the game, then for the sake of continuity and stability, your character will be placed on the pre-generation list.

Age Policy

Player Age

You must be 18 years of age or whatever the legal age of adulthood is within your respective country to play on Elua's Precept. If you are found to be younger than that, you will be asked to leave the game. No exceptions.

Character Age

The In Game age of consent in Terre D’Ange is 16, no character below that age is permitted to participate in sexually explicit roleplay. Just no. Don’t even ask. No character under the age of 16 is permitted, unless they are created within 2 months of their in-character birthday and even then, there is still to be no explicit role play. If you are caught violating this rule, you will be asked to leave the game. No exceptions.

Sex and the game

It's going to happen, especially in a theme like what Mrs Carey has created. Sex, or TS as it is called, will occur. Private or public, small or large. Thee is no limitations that we will impose other than please keep it out of public rooms. Period.

Adult Content

Anyone who has read the novels is aware that sexual assault is a thing that exists in this setting. However, the way roleplay revolving around this topic is handled is a thing we as a staff are very serious about. Sexual Assault content is not something that happens without the full understanding and agreement of all of the players involved, from the get go. There excuse of “it just happened organically this way,” is not gonna fly, under any circumstances. Both in the case of the act of rape or coercion, and recovery roleplay informed consent must be obtained. Any scenes involving explicit interactions with a character or NPC under the age of consent (16) is expressly forbidden as well.

Serial Rapist characters will not be accepted, Intoxication/Silence is not consent etc. etc. If the decision to commit this crime is arrived at In Game and all parties agree to the scene be aware that the perpetrator will very likely face dire, even supernaturally enforced consequences for their actions. Any player in the scene may reconsider and stop the scene/story at any point.

We will go to greater lengths than normal to produce a clean retcon for this type of content if players are no longer comfortable with the story. Players may refuse this content whenever they wish. If someone has told you that this is not content that interests them, don’t pester them about it under any circumstances.

Social and Lethal PvP

The Kushiel’s Legacy series is full of political machinations, assassination, cold blooded murder and the like. Which is fine and dandy for a novel, but not particularly conducive to a healthy roleplaying environment, particularly not the one we are trying to create here. Socially based player versus player content is perfectly within the bounds of the setting and acceptable. A ploy to steal someone’s title, breaking alliances, ruining a marriage or love affair, exposing secrets and the like. Destroying your enemies without killing them fosters a collaborative story in which everyone retains their agency and is willing to engage with. Killing off another character does nothing but end story.

This is not to say that characters will not die as a product of plot or player conflict, but that the decision to do so should be handled with great care. Lethal plots will be advertised as such, and the death of characters will be carefully considered by the staff. This is not to say we have a “kill cap” and the dice will take us where they may, but this is not a story decision that is taken lightly. Similarly, if you’ve gotten to the point that the only way to resolve a conflict with another character is killing them, make sure you have a good reason for it, and that it really is the last choice available. Lastly, if your character wants a random victim contact staff, we will provide you with an NPC. If you are able to find a player who is willing to create or use one of their own characters to provide your character with their mark, all the better.

Dice and Rolling

To Roll or Not

While we are a game that follows the FS3 system and thus there are stats, we do not expect everyone to roll on everything all the time. The stats and the ability to roll are provided as an impartial way to judge skill, prevent people from being awesome at everything from a tremendously young age and provide the opportunity for a balanced character and a way to at times for you to decide on your characters actions. The flexibility of the FS3 system allows for this to happen but at the same, not get in the way of RP.

If two players don't feel like rolling to tell if someone is lying, their emotional state or what have you, they are not required. But please do respect that there are those who will roll for that sort of thing and if it is a countered/contested roll, you will be expected to roll as well and adhere to the outcome.

Combat

It's inevitable, people are going to physically fight in game. Whether a duel over honor, thievery in the streets or anything else that combat may involve. The dice and your sheets are there to be used, and while it is suggested that that they be utilized, it is not necessary that they be used if both players feel like they prefer not to and can come to agreement about their actions outcomes and the inevitable winner/loser. If one person wants to use the dice however, or even tossing a coin, then in that situation, the other player is expected to do the same. If you are having trouble with combat or require someone with better knowledge of the system or even someone to adjudicate, you are expected to ping staff so that someone can do just that.

Miscellaneous

Names

Certain names are off limits to be used in the game. Namely, those of canon characters, or any names that may be found offensive. If you are making a character with any of the above, you will be asked to rename your character to something more appropriate. Players are also asked to refrain from using accents on their names, to get around having the same name as another player. You can have them on your wiki page, in your +finger, but you will be asked to rename your character appropriately if you are found in violation of this policy.

Public Idling

If you are idling in public, it is presumed that you are available for RP. If you are not available for RP or will be idle for long periods of time, please transport yourself to the OOC lounge, or your private residence if applicable. If you find yourself idle, and others have moved into the room and begun RPing around you and you leave without having interacted, you cannot consider anything in the scene, as valid information for your character to use/know.

RP Sandbox

These are temporary rooms located in a room off the OOC lounge. If there is a room on the grid that is applicable to your scene, you are expected to use the room on the grid. If you find yourself constantly using the temp rooms for the same place, you are expected to submit a request for the creation of the room on the grid since it's obviously wanted.

These rooms are not to be used to circumvent the rules of TS in public. These rules should not be used to RP characters that have not been approved. These rooms are to be used for one off scenes where there needs to be a set number of participants, auditions, for long term travel where there is RP occurring separate from the main group. Many reasons that should not be abused please.

Spying, Objects, Dark

No one is allowed to set themselves dark or unfindable, not even staff. No one is allowed to make an object for the purpose of spying on an individual or room. These are bannable offenses that will be enforced. There are ways to spy on others via code, requests and good old fashioned RP. Try those valid avenues.

Buildings, Housing & Businesses

All characters are entitled to 1 room on the grid. Whether it is to be used for a business, housing or whatever their choice is, that is the limit. An exception to this is Novices, Adepts and Courtesan characters. Novices and Adept reside within the mont and would have dormitories that they occupy. Courtesans - those who have made their marque - that remain with the house and don't depart can have a room within the house made for them. Otherwise, Courtesans will be treated like any other character with regards to room limits.

All titled characters start out with a room within their corresponding provincial house. Non-titled characters are welcome to request a house on the grid if they don't fall under a specific family. Upgrading a house - moving from one section of the city to a better section - will cost you in game. Buying a business or expanding your business, will cost you. Didn't have a house and buying one? That will cost you. Renovating your house and need staff to re-desc it for you, that is going to cost you. In an effort to at least deal with economics to a degree, give players options for spending their wealth, things like this will be provided as options.
