Character Generation Policies

Character Generation on Elua's Precept

So you've decided to make a character on Elua's Precept. Welcome! Below you'll find a guide of how to go about applying for various forms of characters on our game.

Feature and Non-Feature Characters

On Elua's Precept characters are divided into two basic categories: Feature and non-Feature.
Featured characters include the following:

Provincial Ducals
Sovereign Ducal Heirs
Dowaynes of the Night Court

Anything that does not meet this criteria is considered a non-Feature character and is applied for through the standard character generation system you can find on our game. Simply go through the character generation rooms and follow the various prompts to create your character.

Once you have completed Character Generation for a non-Feature character two staffers will review your application for approval.

Featured Characters

Firstly: Each player may only have one Featured Character at a time. No Exceptions.
Secondly: All Feature Characters require an audition to be approved.

You can find our list of available Feature Characters here

Featured Characters are the characters on Elua's Precept that are anticipated to have more involvement in things such as plots and public events. These are, of course, not the only characters that can become major players in the story but certain qualities such as rank, title or responsibility predispose them to hold more IC responsibility. They are highlighted so that players can be aware of these IC responsibilities and the increased OOC commitment that comes along with it. Featured characters go through a slightly different Character Generation process to ensure that there is an open dialogue between the interested player and the staff about expectations, power and responsibilities.

We do not recommend that you pick up a Featured Character as your first character on the game. These characters are staples of the IC society and require a certain amount of consistency to help facilitate a smooth story. We highly recommend that you create a non-Feature character to try the game out first, as you may find that the game is not for you. Obviously, Real Life Comes First, and in the cases of RL needing to take precedence over the game all we ask for is as clear communication with the staff about extended absences as possible.

Dropping a Featured Character with no forewarning, or valid excuse, or repeatedly doing so will make it less likely for staff to approve you for featured characters.

Application Process

Below you'll find an overview of the extra steps needed to apply for certain kinds of Feature Characters. You can find a directory of which staffers to contact for which characters at the bottom of this page.

Auditions

An Audition is simply a scene that happens pre-approval with at least two staffers to help the staff get a bearing of your writing style, character and player temperament and grasp of setting and theme.

Provincial Ducals

Provincial Ducals are approved by an audition based system. To set up an audition @mail the staffers who are in charge of the Province you wish your Ducal Character to be from. The appropriate staffers will work with you to inform you of various story elements your character would be aware of and interact with. Once you have a good bearing on the character an audition scene will be conducted with at least two staffers. During this process you may feel free to begin mechanical character generation, simply be aware that completing sheet generation and submitting a backstory does not constitute approval in this case.

Sovereign Ducal Heirs

Sovereign Ducal heirs are also auditioned for, and all Sovereign Ducals (your character's parents or immediate family) are NPCs. To begin the process of creating a Sovereign Ducal Heir @mail the staffers who are in charge of the province you wish your character to be from. Additionally, include the staffer who plays the Sovereign Ducal NPC your character will be associated with (more often than not this will be one of the staffers in charge of the province, but exceptions do happen). The associated staffers will begin a dialogue with you concerning plotlines for the province, and the relationship between the Ducal and their heir. Once these conversations are completed and your sheet and backstory submitted and your audition is complete your application will be reviewed by two non-directly involved staffers for approval.

Dowaynes of the Night Court

To begin creating a Dowayne @mail Cereus and your second if one is already on grid. From there you will work out your new character's place in terms of plot and their relationships to at least the Dowayne of Cereus and their Second (again, if one is on grid). Once you have finished these conversations, submitted an application and completed your audition it will be reviewed by a non-directly involved staffer for review.

Promotion from Non-Feature to Feature

Finally, it is possible, through IC action to have your previously non-Feature character elevated to a position that would normally come with Feature status. You second may become Dowayne of their house, your noble may be promoted etc. When this begins to organically happen through RP staff will contact you to have a conversation about IC and OOC expectations and responsibilities.

Princes and Princesses of the Blood

Princes and Princesses of the blood are considered non-Feature characters, unless they hold some other title which would make them Feature Characters.

"Prince/Princess of the Blood" is an honorific bestowed upon people no more than three generations removed from a member of the Royal Family. This honorific permits these people to style themselves as His/Her Royal Highness or HRH, and might contain some social prestige, but holds not power in and of itself. Brashly flaunting this title with the expectation of undue deference may be met with IC consequences. If you have any questions feel free to @mail staff!
