Information

It is said when Naamah gave herself to the King Persis to win the Blessed Elua his freedom, she did with compassion heavy in her heart, compassion over the plight of blessed Elua, and compassion for the King of Persis. Her kiss was like a soothing balm, and with that and a tender caresses, she persuaded the King to forget his worries and concern for one evening as she brought him peace.

This is what they believe at Balm House within the Night Court. They are skilled the healing arts and massage, most adepts being master masseurs. Patrons who come to Balm House seek the soothing compassion that they might bring to them.

Fosterage

Most fosterlings enter House Balm at age 6, the earliest age a child can be accepted by any House of the Night Court. Many fosterlings are identified when the spiced candies are given out to determine who should foster in House Valerian, and a Balm Courtesan is on hand and marks those fosterlings that attempt to sooth and comfort those that do not have a pleasant reaction to the spiced candy. Other fosterlings are found throughout the years, up till the point the fosterling dedicates themselves to Naamah.

Attire

The attire of Balm House is wide and varied, and often suited for what the adept or courtesan may be needed for or be asked to do. Foremost, their attire generally helps to promote the adept or courtesan being warm, kind, and compassionate. The aura of being someone open and approachable is something that a Balm adept strives for with their patrons, as often they will confide in the adept things they normally will not share with anyone else.

Training

Besides the normal training that all Night Court adepts receive such as courtly manners and etiquette, Balm adepts receive extensive training in skills designed to help relax and sooth their patrons, such as those skills in massage, aroma therapy, and herb craft. Many may also receive training from Priest/ess of Eisheth in how to care for those patrons recovering from injury and/or illness of body, and how to soothe the troubled mind.

It is to be noted that while an adept does receive this training, they are not a chirurgeon, and thus cannot diagnose an illness, heal massive trauma, perform surgeries, or prescribe cures. They can, however, follow directions left by a chirurgeon to help with the recovery of a patient/patron, much as a nurse might do in modern times.

Many Balm courtesans often continue after serving Namaah into priesthood within Eisheth's temple, becoming chirurgeons themselves in time.

Debut

While at times, the debut of a Balm novice may be held privately, often time it is a public fete with the adept showcasing their skills and training. While circulating the room, they may offer brief massages, play relaxing music, or converse quietly with their perspective patrons. The night would end with the novice offering the winner of their auction a more in-depth demonstration of those skills.
